Thank you so much for your donation. We were able to make the trip to Minnesota for treatment at the Mayo Clinic in mid-April. Nikki is now home after 10 days at Mayo and a stem cell transplant at SUH. She is doing well and hoping to return to school soon.
Nicole was diagnosed October 1999 at age 15 with osteosarcoma. She has endured over 12 months of high dose chemo, radiation, 9 surgeries and experimental therapies, but she is truly defined by her personality as a sweet young woman.
We live in hope that Nicole will win this battle and go to college in the fall so that she may "give back" and make an impact on someone else's life as you, and others, have done for her.
Thank you for your generous donation. We have a long road ahead of us. Taylor has metastic Ewing's sarcoma (hip and lungs). She'll require 12-15 months of chemotherapy, radiation, and possible surgery. Your contribution will greatly help us pay our medical bills that our insurance won't cover. We can't express our gratitude enough for this contribution.
Thank you (and your organization) very much for the very generous donation in memory of Shawn. It will help so much with all the expenses that will get me well soon! My mom and dad thank you also, for your prayers and concerns at this difficult time.
Thank you for your very generous gift for our son Joseph. Your kind words will never be forgotten. Please know that you will always be in our prayers.
There are people who say and do the right things, that give comfort and support. They're quick to understand and lend a helping hand whenever some is down. What joy to know you had a part in filling our hearts with the thing that matters most, your love. Our struggle has been very long and though we still have a long way to go, your caring has made a difference. What you have done will be remembered forever.
Thank you so very much for your kind and generous gift. We can't express the gratitude we feel, but please know you have helped us so very much.
Johnny is doing well. He had bone replacement surgery in May, which went well, but will take a long time to heal. His spirits are very good and we so appreciate all the help we have received in keeping them up.
Thank you so very much again.
I would personally like to thank you for your generous donation to Andrew. Your compassion, support and help are very much appreciated. The assistance the fund provides to children and families is a great tribute to your son, Shawn. His memory will be with us forever. God bless.
I just wanted to let you know that the Kyle's family is pleased and relieved that additional funds were granted. Kyle's father plans to take a week off from work, which he wouldn't have been able to afford without the funds, to spend time with Kyle.
We can't even begin to tell you how important your support was at this time. Without it we were facing some very hard and frustrating times. We have been struggling for so long, being bounced from one hospital to another seeking the best and most advanced treatment for our son. Your gift meant much more than you could ever guess.
Thank you for your donation. It will be used towards one of Emily's many medical bills. We appreciate your support and continue to hope for your prayers.
Included is a picture of Austin during his first week of life. He was about 2lbs. 1oz. He has already had surgery on his heart. He seems to be a fighter for such a little guy. He is now one month old.
We want to thank you for your generous donation. We really appreciate it. It came in a great time of need! Thank you and God bless you.
We are so very grateful for your generous gift of money. Darcy spent two months in the Children's Hospital in Boston so it was much appreciated.Darcy has severe Cystic Fibrosis and at this time has lost much weight so is being tube fed and is on oxygen at all times. This has been very difficult for her as she is a senior and misses being active at school. She is also on a lung transplant list.
Thank you very much for the generous gift of money to help with our daughter's treatment. It is overwhelming that you were so helpful to us. We greatly appreciate your kindness.
I must say that I am very sorry for not thanking you sooner for your donation, between moving and helping Nicholas, time has moved very fast for me. Your donation to Nicholas was not only needed, but was accepted with much love. I'm very sorry for the loss of your son Shawn. I'm sure he brought a great joy into your life. He's not really gone, he lives on with the love and support you give to other children. Each day I pray for an understanding as to why this awful disease can take so many young people. My heart breaks for all the children who have lived this nightmare and for the ones who will come after us. No child should have to endure such pain. I hope and pray I have the strength for Nicholas. Please accept my many thanks. We will keep in touch with you about Nicholas. He has a very long, hard road ahead, but with people like you he will make it.
Our sincere thanks for the donation to Taylor on behalf of the Shawn Grady Fund. We especially appreciate your prayers as we face an uncertain future. Taylor is feeling fairly well but her scans show she is not responding to her current chemotherapy. We will benefit greatly from your donation as we seek the best possible treatment for her.
Back in April you sent a generous donation to help us with expenses with Jared. We are so thankful because it paid for our entire stay at the Ronald MacDonald House. Jared's first transplant in April did not take therefore another one was performed. We are still in the hospital. Things, however, are looking great. Again, we thank you for your kindness. It was much appreciated.
We have recently received your generous check in support of our daughter Marissa. We thank you very much for your kind, thoughtful offering. The included article of your son was particularly touching. I would like you both to know that we were aware of your son's situation and his tremendous strength and character even before cancer struck our family. His reputation reflects very well on his upbringing. We extend our deepest and most sincere condolences. To say we know how you feel or what you experienced would not be true, however we probably can relate to a degree.
At this time we have reason to be optimistic for our daughter's recovery. We pray God will now care for your son and tat he will continue to give you both strength to deal with your tragedy. We thank you both for taking the most tremendous loss a person could experience and use it to help others. It is obvious to us that your son had his parent's traits. We know his memory will live thru his foundation.
My family and I would like to take this moment to thank you for the donation. During these difficult times, it's nice to know that there are organizations like the Shawn Grady Memorial Fund.
Thank you so much for your generous support for Sawyer's medical expenses. It was an unexpected blessing and we truly appreciate it.
Thank you so very much for the generous gift! It was as if God heard my prayers! Bless you!
My son and I would like to offer our sincerest thanks to your foundation and all who help to make your foundation successful enough to be able to help families like us. God bless you all!
Thank you so much for the check and for thinking about me and my family.
Thank you so very much for your generous gift. We received wonderful news on Tuesday that Joshua is in remission after his first 4 weeks of treatment. We now face 2-1/2 more years of treatment but the outlook looks good.
As you well know, the family has many, many unexpected expenses including two hundred dollars a month in co pays for medications. Your generous gift will help immensely to ease the burden.
I would like to start by extending to you my deepest sympathy for the loss of your son, Shawn. I try to stay away from thoughts of what I would do if it comes down to that, but I can only begin to imagine your pain.
My son Warren's leukemia has been very difficult to handle. We have our ups and downs as I'm sure you can understand. I can't tell you how much your donation to us meant to me. It came at a time when I was feeling like the future was pretty bleak. Receiving you gift was truly a reminder that God is going to be with us the entire way.
I do hope that someday I will be able to help your foundation grow somehow. I hope that I be as helpful to others as you have been to me when this is over.
Thank you once again for your generosity. Thank you also for the inspiration you have given to me beyond what I can convey on paper. Good luck to you for the future!
I would like to send my heartfelt thank you for the money.
It came at a time when I thought all was lost.
I would like to tell you a little bit about my daughter Trisha. She is 15 years old and has been dealing with Systemic Lupus, better known as SLE. She is a fighter and many days I see the light leave her eyes because of this disease. I can not even imagine loosing a child, but do want to send my dearest sympathy on the loss of your son. I hope that when the Lord takes my daughter people will remember her that way they remember you son. The past two years have been extremely difficult and I know that they will not get better than this.
Trisha prays every day they find a cure before either another organ or joint goes. Yet I have to admit her will has kept her alive. She does have days where she wants to just give up, but she says she can't because she is afraid I will not have anyone to help me through my grief. I do have an older daughter and she deals with it in the same manner that I do, by just loving Trisha and giving her our strength when hers is weak. So again I would like to say thank you and to everyone involved. God bless you for everything.
On September 16th, Sophia had a PET scan. The test determined that there in no cancerous activity in the area of her tumor or any other area for that matter! She is now in remission! She will remain on her IV pump for one more month and take the pill form of her medicine for about eight months. We will continue to monitor her to assure that things remain as is.
We are so grateful to Friends like you who have cared, prayed, hoped, and supported our difficult situation over the years. Boy, does it feel good to share good news for a change!!
Thank you for your generous donation. It came the very next day after you said it would be in the mail! We never dreamed it would be that much and we used it for vehicle upkeep. Thanks again!
Here is a small donation from my class to the Shawn Grady Fund. On our 100th day of school each child brought in 100 pennies to give to the fund. Although it's a small donation, the kids had very big smiles when they learned where the money was going.
We hope that the recipient of our pennies will have matching smiles. What a great organization you have created.
Thank you both so much for the generous donation. The money will be used for gas to go to and from Syracuse for treatments. We are all very sorry about Shawn, and we are very proud you hold his name in such a helpful cause. Please pray for Tyler that he gets in a safe healthy remission and cure of his Leukemia disease.
Bradley has just completed his second round of chemo. After the chemo radiation will follow. We are praying for positive results from his MRI, scheduled next week.
Our family, friends, and the community have jumped right in to help in immeasurable ways. We are deeply touched by people's kindness and support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers and generous gift.
Thank you for your prayers and support from the Zachary's family during these troubled times. Thank you for your generosity.
Thank you for the generous gift you sent me from the Shawn Grady Fund. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Words cannot express how thankful and grateful I am for your thoughtful donation. Thank you so much for helping my daughter and I.
We do not have words to express the kindness and generosity of your donation. As you know, in addition to the emotional stress of having a child with a disease comes a financial burden as well. There is great comfort in knowing there are caring people out there such as yourselves and hopefully everything will work out. Thanks so much.
I can't begin to thank you for your generosity. It has been such a tough road. Every time it seems like we start to get ahead something else happens. Like I had just found a good job then my daughter, Dakota who was three almost four at the time, was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia). I had to stop working. Then my son Dylan, who is 2 now, has to see a neurologist. Then, like you know, I finally found a house I would like the kids to grow up in and everything shorts out in it and we can't stay there right now. It still hasn't been fixed. Sometimes I just sit down and cry. Dakota is doing ok right now, thank God. When I heard your son's story it just breaks my heart. Every time we go to the hospital it brings me back to reality. I want to thank you again for your generous gift and hopefully in the future I can give back what you have given us. Thank you and God bless.
Thank you very much for your generosity and prayers. Your gift is greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
It really means a lot to us that such wonderful people still exist in the world. I'm sure you know, words can't express our tremendous gratitude.
I hope you won't mind if we consider Shawn one of our special angels now.
Just wanted to drop you a short note. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your more than generous gift.
Maurice opened the envelope and started to dance me around our living room! I haven't seen him this happy in some time. On June 12th, we are going to the coast to visit his sister. You have made his dreams come true. Thank you again and we will keep in touch.
I don't even know where to begin to say thank you. You two are absolutely wonderful people. I'm so glad that we had the opportunity to meet - even under the circumstances. You know we will remain friends forever. We'll be there to help with anything and everything for the Shawn Grady Fund. I appreciate all you have done for Ashley and my family. May God always bless you.
Thank you so much for your very generous gift. When I read your card it made me cry. So sad that such a wonderful young man died so young. You must miss him terribly. We are working hard to find a cure for our son's disease. We have so many wonderful friends and family helping us that we truly feel blessed. I'm sure I can only begin to imagine the pain you felt as your son fought to live. You must feel blessed to have had him as long as you did. Thank you again for thinking of others like you do. They say your children model themselves after their parents. I can see where Shawn got his fine attributes from.
We were very touched by your kindness expressed to us. Your gift of money was truly appreciated. Andrew is 6-1/2 years old. He is a beautiful, sweet boy. He loves sports and particularly loves hockey. He doesn't play leagues, but plays in the back yard with his brother who is 8.
We arrived in Memphis at St. Jude's on February 11 and had to go through a third battery of tests before we had a confirmed diagnosis. It is Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma.
He has responded extremely well to chemo and we are believing God for a 100% recovery.
We don't know how long we'll be in Memphis, but we've been blessed here and we'll stay as long as we need to. Thank you.
I read that the Grady Tournament is being ended. I have attended the tournament since its inception and will miss it. I understand the funds will be distributed and the good work will continue for as long as it can.
I felt compelled to do something to help the fund continue its marvelous work. I took a collection in my office and I am enclosing the checks to you for the fund. Unfortunately, I did this during the holidays when most were away on vacation. However, the amount being sent is being forwarded to you in memory of your son and in honor of my son who was a recipient of a donation from your fund in 1996. We very much appreciated what your donations meant to us. God bless!
We would like to thank you for the gift to our daughter Morgan. The gift has helped on her medical bills and food. Currently Morgan is doing really well. She is a little on the light side of her weight but we feel it is increasing. We have enclosed a picture of Morgan so that you may see whom you are helping. Again, thank you for your gift.
Please forgive me for not writing sooner. This past May my children Timmy and Jessica received your most generous donation from the Shawn Grady Memorial Fund. It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that on June 2 Jessica succumbed to cystic fibrosis, ending a life-long battle that included a living donor double lung transplant just 14 months earlier. She would have graduated just three weeks after she passed away. Much like your son Shawn, she was a source of inspiration and strength to many and possessed a kind and loving heart that reached out to everyone whose spirit she touched.
Timmy is now 7 years old and has benefited from many new medical treatments that were not available when Jessica was this age. I am confident that he will continue living her legacy of strength and perseverance in his struggles with CF. As you both are well aware, the financial burdens of good medical care can be extensive. With your generosity, those burdens have been somewhat lessened, but it is through your generosity of spirit that I am comforted the most.
I would like to extend my most heartfelt gratitude to you both, along with the Board of Directors, for your kind assistance in helping us defray some of our medical costs, but also for your thoughts and prayers for our family at this most difficult time.
I sincerely appreciate the financial assistance that your memorial find provided to my two families with Cystic Fibrosis. Clay's mother cried when she got her check and she said that it's as if God was looking down on them. The Clay's were also very grateful for the money and they are able to worry a lot less now about their immediate financial future. I can't tell you enough how much hope that you have given to these families. Just when they felt like there was no hope, you were able to help shine a little light in their lives and make things more bearable.
What a legacy you have given your son.
First and foremost we want to extend to you our deepest and most heartfelt apologies for the loss of your son. Accordingly, our warmest thoughts will forever be with you.
Also, a thank you is justly due for the check. It will be saved for a vacation of Courtney's choice. We wish that we could say more or do more. Thank you seems entirely inadequate and hollow in comparison to your generous donation, but for us this simple two word phrase has never been uttered more sincerely. Thank you so much!
As for Courtney, she is doing awesome! If not for her hair loss and slight paleness, you would never know that she is ill. She has not lost any weight, is always full of energy, maintains her same routine and has had no substantial side effects from her chemotherapy treatments. It is almost as if having cancer has been a slight inconvenience in her life. What a relief!
As for us, well that's another issue. Since Courtney's initial diagnosis in July 2002, our emotions have run the gamut: from breathless shock, to the "why us" syndrome, to fear, to downright anger. Currently, however, we are only concerned with making the best of a tragic situation and getting Courtney back to excellent health. The rough days still occur frequently. On those days we are consumed by awful thoughts and gripped with fear, fear that one day we might have to endure the terrible fate that you have had to endure. But somehow, some way, we make it through the day, and the days that follow, and that is what we will keep doing.
Thank you once again. If there is ever anything we can do for you or your organization please, please let us know - we mean it! If you are religious people, please keep us in your prayers. Bless you both. Godspeed. Do well!
My wife and I want to thank you for the donation you sent us. It will come in handy for the trips to Syracuse that we must take time to time.
My daughter Danielle is receiving treatment at this time at University Hospital in Syracuse for a cancerous tumor she had on her left side. I travel to the hospital every day when she is in the hospital and my wife stays with her every night when she has to stay. Danielle is a very strong person and has a very positive attitude that she will get through this. She is a senior and hopes to graduate this year with her class.
As soon as we get back on our feet, we will be making a donation to Shawn's cause. It's only fair. You helped us and we plan to help you.
Again, thank you very much.
My daughter Dayna and myself cried when we read about your beloved son Shawn. You have no idea how your donation will help us make the costs of help for Dayna. She has been very depressed and your donation really made her feel energized. This is all so new to us and she has had to change her life to accommodate this disease and its cost. You may have lost your son, but he lives in the hearts of those you help.
I was very happy when I got your letter but I was also saddened because you lost your son. I am going to use the money to get a computer. I have wanted one for a long time but could not afford it. My mom says I can get a computer now. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for the very generous donation you gave to our family. We're so glad that you specified that we use it any way we wished - let me explain. At the moment our family is doing ok financially but we know of two families that desperately need money right now, so we decided to share with them. We hope you don't mind. Both families have young children with brain tumors. One family is local (Syracuse), they have a 7 year old named Timothy who is on the same treatment as Sophia. Their insurance is not covering the treatment, but their immediate concern was their mortgage payment so we sent them some money.
The other family is from Tucson, Arizona. Their son's name is Thomas and they very much want him to begin treatment, but are having financial and legal setbacks. We sent them money as they will need it for travel when he is able to start.
We made sure to send copies of the brochure you sent us so they would know where the money came from (we kept the original with Shawn's handsome Irish boy picture on it)!
Thank you for your gift. It was much needed.
